Dear Year 11 student/parent,

I hope you are well. Thursday is results day. This is a long email and I would implore you to read it together.

It is not my job to comment on how the government has dealt with results this year, and things may well change between now and Thursday – in which case I will possibly need to email you again. I can simply assure you that we will be doing all we can to ensure that your next step in education is the right one for you.

We have tweaked our approach to how results day will take place this year following my last email to you on 10th July.

  • All students will receive results via their school email account at 8.00am.
  • If you still wish to collect your results in an envelope from school please do so at the following times:

o    8.30 – 9.00                 SURNAMES A – F

o    9.30 – 10.00               SURNAMES G – N

o    10.30 – 11.00             SURNAMES O – Z

We are required to take into account government guidelines regarding students/parents in school and these are listed here:

Schools planning to open their doors to pupils on results day should continue to follow the hierarchy of controls they have used over the summer term.

In particular this means:

  • ensuring that those who have coronavirus (COVID-19) symptoms, or who have someone in their household who does, do not attend school
  • ensuring staff and pupils clean their hands more often than usual
  • ensuring good respiratory hygiene by promoting the ‘catch it, bin it, kill it’ approach
  • cleaning frequently touched surfaces often using standard products, such as detergents and bleach

Pupils and parents should follow coronavirus (COVID-19): safer travel guidance for passengers when planning their travel to school, and be encouraged to walk or cycle where possible. Schools should consider the potential for broader social mixing outside school when deciding their approach and communicate with pupils about not socialising with each other in large groups outside school.

Schools should continue to make clear to parents that, should they wish to accompany their child to collect their results, they must not gather at entrance gates or doors (and neither should their child), or enter the site (unless they have a pre-arranged appointment).

Our approach will allow us to maintain social distancing in school and ensure that we are able to have a one way system in place. Please come to the main entrance where you will be directed to the school hall to collect your envelope. We will have a skeleton staff of SLT and admin staff in place to meet you and give out results; unfortunately we are unable to allow parents into school at this time.

We have worked very hard with you to ensure you have options in place for your next move in education after Hartford and we are confident that the vast majority of you will achieve the grades required for your first choice. For those of you who feel the need to discuss your next steps on Thursday 20th or Friday 21st, please contact us at the following email address or phone number and we will arrange follow up appointments - in person, or by telephone where appropriate. The email and phone number below will deal with support and guidance regarding next steps.

We will look very closely at every result for every student and compare them with our Centre Assessed Grades. If we think that we have grounds for appeal (and currently there is a lack of clarity on this matter) we will contact you by email by Monday 24th August at the latest.

If you have any other concerns or queries regarding results please email me at:

If students choose to collect results on the day, they will receive a very warm welcome from the staff on site.

In Caritas et Veritas,

Mike Holland
