Sadly, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the strain on foodbanks, who give out short term emergency food parcels to families in crisis, has increased dramatically. Many have been giving out in a day what they would normally distribute in a week! Much of the donated food usually comes from Harvest Festivals in schools and churches, yet none of those have been able to take place this year due to the necessary ban on gatherings.
However, our amazing school community, moved by the crisis, has risen to the challenge and, following our virtual harvest assemblies, in just under two weeks managed to donate a whopping 163.3kg (about 26 stones) of food!
A huge thank you to each and every one of you who donated…every single item means that someone will not have to go to bed hungry! A special thank you goes to Red House who, marginally made the greatest collection this year!
If you would like to continue giving to support families in crisis through the winter, most supermarkets have a trolley for Foodbank located near the checkout.
Why not buy a little extra, or maybe a Christmas treat and pop it in?
Really well done to our wonderful school community!
