Headteacher Update 8th October 202108/10/21
I hope you are well.
I start this week’s email with the sad news that Jane Thompson has recently passed away. Jane worked at Hartford from 1986 and left us in 2005 (when she was Head of Science) to become a school adviser. Those of you who remember Mrs Thompson will know exactly what I mean when I refer to her as a force of nature. I have passed on the condolences of the school community to her family.
Next Monday and Tuesday we are holding vaccinations in school for 12-15 year olds. The deadline for permissions has now passed. The Public Health team in schools are only able to vaccinate students who are 12 – 15 (so some Year 7 students are included and those students in Year 11 who are already 16 will not be eligible).
We have also been asked to remind parents to ensure that students continue to do a Lateral Flow Test twice a week so that asymptomatic cases can be identified. We understand that it is challenging to distinguish between Covid-19 and other respiratory illnesses like the common cold, which are now becoming more prevalent; students can attend school with a common cold.
The main symptoms of COVID-19 are:
- new continuous cough
- fever (temperature of 37.8°C or higher)
- loss of, or change in, normal sense of taste or smell
We are hopeful of getting some use out of our newly refurbished Caritas Gym before half term. The windows have been completely replaced and they have transformed the external look of a building which dates from 1963. Lots of workers are currently on site carrying out a number of jobs in 4 separate areas: mezzanine full size classroom, mezzanine small group room, ground floor fitness gym and ground floor Dance and Drama space. We will attach photos when it is complete!
We have also placed an order for an additional bike shed. This will be located just outside the Veritas Changing Room doors and will be accessible via the Carriage Drive entrance. Hopefully this will be in place just after half term.
Finally I would like to draw your attention to the fact that we always advertise school staff vacancies on our website and we are currently advertising for a Data/Exams Manager to join our administration team. The link to the website is:
This is a term time plus two weeks role and is the opportunity to work with our superb support staff team as well as a Headteacher with excellent taste in shoes, 1980s Electronic pop music and mediocre football teams. Not everything is too good to be true!
In Caritas et Veritas,
