Headteacher Update 11th December 2020

Dear Parent/Carer,

I hope you are well.

Term will end for students at 1pm on Friday 18th December. You may have read or seen that the DfE had suggested that schools might have an INSET day next Friday. What was less widely publicised was that if this happened students would have to make up the day later in the school year; so our plans remain unchanged.

Next week at school will be as normal as possible. There will be no reward trip to the Trafford Centre or Carol Concerts at St John’s Church. We will have Christmas services for Year 7 on Wednesday, however, and Period 4 on Friday will be spent with Form Tutors.

We have also decided that Period 6 will not take place next week for Year 11 and 10 students. The approach of students to this, and their studies in general, has been really positive this term and we are very pleased with where we are with our curriculum coverage; staff have also been incredibly positive in their approach. So we will regroup with Period 6 again on Monday 4th January 2021.

The early finish next Friday will give staff the opportunity to say a formal (virtual) farewell to Elizabeth Parker-Clark. Elizabeth was meant to leave us in the summer following 15 years of incredible service to Hartford’s school community. In the midst of the pandemic I asked her to remain with us on a part time basis for this term. So many students, parents and staff have benefited from her wise counsel and support during her time here.

Not only is she an inspirational teacher but her contribution to the leadership of the school over so many years has been exceptional. She will be missed on a professional and personal level by so many people – not least myself – and she leaves with our heartfelt thanks and very best wishes for her future.

On a practical note regarding Test and Trace I must give you the following advice.

  • Please inform us via the usual email address – lnaylor@hartfordhigh.co.uk  - if your child tests positive for COVID 19 at any point up until 1pm on Christmas Eve but only if symptoms started before 1pm on Sunday 20th December. This email address will be monitored between 10am and 1pm until Christmas Eve.
  • In the case of a positive test the school is asked to assist in identifying close contacts and advising self-isolation, as the individual may have been infectious whilst in school.

  • Where a student or staff member tests positive for coronavirus (COVID-19), having developed symptoms after 1pm on Sunday 20th December the school should not be contacted. Parents should follow contact tracing instructions provided by NHS Test and Trace. School staff are not asked to remain on-call or conduct any contact tracing beyond 1pm on Christmas Eve.

  • Where students are required to self-isolate due to contact with a positive case after 1pm on Christmas Eve, we do not need to be informed about their absence until the first day of the new term.

Thank you for your continued support. The last email of the year next week will be a little lighter…I’m sure you can’t wait!

In Caritas et Veritas,

Mike Holland
