Child of Destiny

11/09/20Child of Destiny

A really warm welcome to Hartford Church of England High School, and an especially warm welcome if you are new here – we are so excited to meet you!  There will be lots of new things to do here, and lots of things that you can build upon to get even better at. You will make new friends, and explore new ways of learning. Hopefully you will join a club or two and I know you will soon settle in really well.

I wonder if you ever think what your life is all about, where is it leading? As a Christian I believe that you have a purpose and a destiny…let me illustrate that with a little story:

A little boy had to write a report for school, so he went to his mother and asked, “Mum, where did I come from?”

Surprised at hearing such a question from her child, the mother discreetly answered, “Um, the stork brought you.”

“And where did YOU come from?” the boy continued.  “Well, the stork brought me, just like he brought you. Now go to your room, no more questions.” But the boy persisted, “What about Grandma. Where did Grandma come from?”

“Look, the stork brought me, the stork brought you and the stork brought Grandma. Now go to your room, I don’t want to talk about this anymore!”

So the little boy went to his room and began to write his report…

“Our family hasn’t had a normal birth in three generations…”

Do you ever wonder how you got here? People sometimes give us daft answers, like ‘the stork brought you’. Don’t believe it. You did not get here by accident! You are not a monkey that got lucky! You are not a mistake – God doesn’t make mistakes! The bible tells us that you are ‘Fearfully and wonderfully made.” Psalm 139:14

The bible also tells us that God knows you better than you know yourself and he even knew you before you were born! God knew where you would be born and even that you would come here, to Hartford Church of England High School. God has a purpose and a destiny for you! You were born for a reason! My prayer is that during your time at Hartford you could come to know something of that reason, and also of his wonderful love for you.

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord. Plans to do you good, not to harm you. Plans to give you a hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11, The Bible

God bless you!
