History of the School

Hartford High School is now a mixed comprehensive school. It was established in the 1970s when the previous Boys and Girls High Schools were amalgamated.

It serves a very wide catchment area covering Hartford, Winnington, Barnton, Castle, Whitegate and Little Leigh but it also welcomes students from places further afield such as Wincham, Lostock and Winsford. In fact, it is not unusual for the students in any one year group to come from 25 primary schools.

The Headteacher, Mike Holland, was appointed in 2005 and in September 2006 the school became the first nationally take on a joint specialism in Languages and Sports. In October 2008 the PE department was judged Outstanding in all areas during an OFSTED subject inspection.

In March 2010 Hartford High School was judged by OFSTED to be a Good school with its students making an outstanding contribution to the school and the local community.
