Key Stage 3
The Key Stage 3 strategy is based on the National Curriculum and prepares students for their SATs in Year 9.
All teachers use the Key Maths textbooks in their planning. The material in the textbooks is complemented by a Scheme of Work that encourages the use of resource materials from the internet.
Our students are regularly assessed and monitored to ensure optimum progress is being made.
Year 7
All Year 7 students will follow the National Numeracy Strategy and this is supplemented by various resources. At the beginning of the year the students are placed in groups of similar abilities, based on their Keystage 2 raw mathematics scores. Our most able students follow an accelerated learning program which will stretch and motivate them throughout their time at Hartford.
Year 8
The National Numeracy strategy continues into Year 8. All students will follow a structured program of work which is based on the 3-part lesson. The teaching groups are setted as in Year 7.
Year 9
In Year 9 the program of work is resourced using various preparatory materials. These materials are specifically geared towards achieving their full potential at the end of year 9. By the end of Year 9 our most able pupils will be aiming for success at Level 8 and will be introduced to parts of the GCSE syllabus.
Key Stage 4
At Key Stage 4, students follow the Edexcel GCSE course.
Students take either the Higher tier (Linear) leading to grades A*-D, or the Foundation tier (Modular) leading to grades C-G.
Linear Structure
