Racial Equality
RACIAL EQUALITY
School Context
Hartford High School is an 11-16 mixed comprehensive school set in a predominantly white area. The specific challenges to the school and the community in relation to racial equality are therefore particularly important.
Pupils are drawn from the surrounding urban areas and from rural communities. The school sets high expectations for the whole pupil population which includes a large number of able pupils and a number of pupils who have specific and additional learning needs. The school is housed in two main sets of buildings that are approximately 250 metres apart.
Our school shares a campus with a tertiary college, an 11 - 18 Catholic high school, two primary schools and two schools with special school status.
Parents are very involved in school life in a number of ways; there are a number of parent helpers and a thriving parent and teacher association.
Moral and Values Framework
The school strives to ensure that the ethos is one in which everyone is equally valued and treats one another with respect.
Policy formulation
The policy was originally formulated by a working party consisting of a governor, a senior
member of staff and a group from the school community i.e. parents, staffand Pupils'
Council.
