Chinese New Year
Chester is holding its fourth Chinese New Year festival in Chester City Centre on Saturday, 16 February 2013 for pupils to experience first hand some fantastic Chinese culture which starts with a tai chi performance and a colourful parade from Eastgate Street at 11am, moving to the Town Hall Square at 12 noon. Free craft workshops will also be held in the Town Hall from 12 noon.
The Year of the Snake will be welcomed into the city by an impressive, traditional Chinese Dragon over 10 metres long, dancing through the streets along with other cultural displays such as a striking fan dance and firecrackers.
The Chinese zodiac calendar follows a 12-year cycle, meaning the Year of the Snake is your year if you were born in 1929, 1941, 1953, 1965, 1977, 1989 or 2001.
