Haiti

In response to the devastating events that have taken place in Haiti, staff and students have been busy organising activities to help with the disaster relief. This has included cake sales, a variety of sponsored events and a ‘Free Dress Day’. The fundraising goes on!
10H have conducted numerous assemblies to highlight the plight of the Haiti disaster and to encourage pupils to participate with fundraising ideas. Miss Gray with the help of 10H have many initiatives planned such as a 5 a-side football tournament with year 10 boys, sponsor a teacher to wear school uniform for a day, bucket collection, cake sales and a sponsored hair cut which about in the next addition of the Newsletter. Mr Holland has even agreed to an impromptu free dress day on the last day of half term.
I caught up with Miss Gray to find out why she and 10H feel so passionately about this cause, ‘Being a mother myself I was reduced to tears when I saw the devastation caused by the earthquake and the number of children left homeless or worse without a family to care for them. I have a fantastic tutor group who always rise to the challenge when it comes to fundraising and as soon as I shared my feelings with them they jumped at the chance to help. Hartford High School has a long tradition of fundraising and we pride ourselves on helping good causes and this is probably one of the most needy we have supported. All across the globe numerous charities are raising money to support Haiti in the rebuilding of communities and we simply want to help in that relief effort. It is my hope that we can raise a considerable amount of money that can make a real difference to people’s lives. This is an ongoing initiative by the school that will run for the rest of the academic year and if anyone in the local community can contribute to our efforts in anyway it would be much appreciated.’
